Shawn McEachern was a standout forward for Boston University from 1988 to 1991. In his three seasons, he was a prolific scorer and a key part of the team’s success, helping them reach the NCAA Frozen Four championship in 1991. That year, he had an exceptional season, putting up 82 points, the second-highest single-season total in BU history at the time. His outstanding performance earned him First-Team All-American honors and a top-10 nomination for the Hobey Baker Award, which recognizes the top player in NCAA men’s hockey.
After his collegiate career, McEachern, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, had a successful and long-lasting professional career. He played over 900 games in the NHL for the Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, and Atlanta Thrashers. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1992, and was also a member of the U.S. National Team at the 1992 Winter Olympics and the 1996 World Cup Championship Team. He later served as the captain of the Thrashers. After retiring as a player, McEachern has transitioned to coaching, and is the head coach of the men’s hockey team at Suffolk University.
