During his collegiate hockey career at the University of Minnesota from 2022 to 2025, Jimmy Snuggerud established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers and elite forwards in college hockey. As a freshman in 2022–23, he erupted for 50 points (21 goals, 29 assists) in 40 games, forming a legendary top line for the Golden Gophers alongside Logan Cooley and Matthew Knies that led Minnesota to the National Championship Game and earned Snuggerud AHCA West First Team All-American honors. In his sophomore campaign (2023–24), he recorded 21 goals and 34 points in 39 games, earning Second Team All-Big Ten accolades. Returning as an alternate captain for his junior 2024–25 season, Snuggerud posted 45 points (18 goals, 27 assists) in 38 games to surpass the 100-career-point milestone and lead the Gophers back to the NCAA Tournament. Throughout his time in Minneapolis, Snuggerud actively participated in community engagement and team service initiatives, including:
- Gopher Youth Hockey Clinics: Volunteering at local youth hockey skills camps and clinics in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.
- M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital Visits: Participating in team visits to spend time with pediatric patients and support hospital events.
- Campus & Community Outreach: Engaging in Minnesota Athletics student-athlete community engagement projects and local youth mentorship programs.
