As a standout defenseman for the University of North Dakota, Russ Parent earned a place as a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award in 1990. During that remarkable senior season, Parent’s offensive prowess from the blue line was on full display as he tallied 9 goals and a nation-leading 50 assists for a total of 59 points in 45 games. This impressive performance also earned him accolades as a First-Team All-American and a First-Team All-WCHA selection. Over his four-year collegiate career with the Fighting Sioux, Parent amassed 24 goals and 115 assists for 139 points, solidifying his legacy as one of the program’s most productive defensemen.
After his successful collegiate tenure, Parent went on to play professionally. He notably spent time with the Canadian national team and had a successful run in the British Hockey League, playing for the Ayr Raiders and the Basingstoke Bison. His professional career also included several seasons with the Monroe Moccasins in the WPHL before his retirement.
