Réjean Boivin was a star right winger for the Colgate Red Raiders from 1984 to 1988. He was a prolific scorer and finished his career with 173 points, placing him fifth all-time in goals scored for the program. As a senior in 1987-88, he was named a first-team All-American and was also a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the top player in U.S. college hockey. That season, he became just the third player in Colgate history to score more than 30 goals in a season. In recognition of his collegiate accomplishments, he was inducted into the Colgate University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

After his four-year collegiate career, Boivin went on to play professionally. He spent one season playing in Finland for the team Ässät, which plays in the SM-liiga. Following his time in Finland, he retired from professional hockey. Despite a short professional playing career, his legacy at Colgate remains significant.
