Martin St. Louis played his college hockey at the University of Vermont from 1993 to 1997. In his freshman season, he was named to the ECAC’s All-Rookie Team. St. Louis continued to excel, earning ECAC First All-Star Team and NCAA All-American honors for three consecutive seasons from 1995 to 1997. In his sophomore year (1994-95), he had 71 points in 35 games and was named a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He was also a Hobey Baker finalist in his junior and senior seasons. He finished his career as Vermont’s all-time leading scorer with 267 points.

Undrafted by an NHL team, Martin St. Louis’ professional career began in 1997. After a brief stint in the IHL and AHL, he signed with the Calgary Flames in 1998, but found his greatest success with the Tampa Bay Lightning, playing for them from 2000 to 2014. With the Lightning, he won the 2004 Stanley Cup, as well as the Hart Memorial Trophy and Art Ross Trophy in the same season. He went on to win a second Art Ross Trophy in 2013 and a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He retired in 2015 after a final season with the New York Rangers.
