Colin Murphy was a standout forward for the Michigan Tech Huskies from 2001 to 2005. His most successful season was his senior year in 2004-2005, where he served as team captain and led the Huskies in points with 53, scoring 11 goals and adding 42 assists. He was also named to the All-WCHA First Team and the AHCA West Second-Team All-American for his strong performance.
After finishing his college career, Murphy signed a free agent contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs and made his professional debut with their AHL affiliate, the St. John’s Maple Leafs, at the end of the 2004-2005 season. He went on to play for the Toronto Marlies and Portland Pirates in the AHL before continuing his career in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in Germany with the Augsburger Panther and Hamburg Freezers. Throughout his professional career, he was a consistent point producer and earned a reputation as a hard-working winger with good scoring instincts.
