Brendan Morrison had an outstanding college hockey career at the University of Michigan from 1993 to 1997. In his junior season (1995-96), he was a Hobey Baker Award finalist. That year, he scored the overtime winning goal in the NCAA National Championship game, securing the Wolverines’ first national title in 32 years. He was a finalist for the award again in his senior year and ultimately won the Hobey Baker Award as the nation’s most outstanding college hockey player in 1997. He finished his collegiate career with 284 points, a school record.
After his successful college career, Morrison was drafted by the New Jersey Devils and went on to have a long professional career, playing in 934 NHL games. He played for seven different teams, including a seven-season tenure with the Vancouver Canucks, where he centered the “West Coast Express” line. Morrison finished his career with 200 goals and 401 assists for 601 total points. He also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2004 IIHF World Championship.
