Larry Olimb was a standout collegiate hockey player for the University of Minnesota from 1988 to 1992. Originally a defenseman, he was moved to center and excelled, becoming the Gophers’ all-time leader in assists with 159. In his senior season, he was named team captain and had his best performance, scoring 80 points (24 goals, 56 assists) in 44 games. His exceptional play earned him a top-10 nomination for the Hobey Baker Award in 1992, an honor given to the top player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. He was also named to the All-WCHA First Team and a Second-Team All-American that year.

After his college career, Olimb, who had been drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in 1987, went on to play professionally for a few seasons. His professional career spanned various minor leagues, including the IHL, ECHL, and a stint in Roller Hockey International (RHI). Olimb played for teams such as the Kansas City Blades, Toledo Storm, and Minnesota Moose before retiring from the game in 1995. After retiring, he has pursued a career in coaching and real estate.
