Darrin Madeley was a prominent college hockey goaltender for Lake Superior State University from 1989 to 1992. He had an impressive collegiate career, highlighted by a 1.93 GAA and two shutouts in his final season. Madeley was also a standout in the postseason, being named the NCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Playoff Most Valuable Player in 1992. That same year, his stellar performance earned him a top-10 nomination for the Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the top player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey.

After his successful college career, Madeley signed as a free agent with the Ottawa Senators in 1992. He played in 39 games in the NHL with the Senators from 1992 to 1995. The rest of his professional career, which lasted until 1999, was spent in various minor leagues, including the AHL, IHL, ECHL, and leagues in Europe. Madeley was inducted into the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame in 2025.
