Brian Gionta played four seasons of college hockey at Boston College from 1997 to 2001. A prolific goal scorer, he led the Eagles in goals during his final three seasons and helped them reach the Frozen Four every year. In his junior season, Gionta recorded 56 points, with 33 goals and 23 assists. His impressive offensive output earned him a top-ten nomination for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award in 2000, along with being named a First-Team All-American. He capped off his collegiate career by captaining the Eagles to an NCAA national championship in 2001.

After his standout college career, Gionta went on to play 16 seasons in the NHL. Drafted by the New Jersey Devils, he was a member of their 2003 Stanley Cup winning team. Gionta was known for his scoring ability and leadership, serving as captain for both the Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres. He reached his career-high in the 2005-06 season, setting a Devils franchise record with 48 goals. Over his career, he played in 1,026 NHL games, amassing 595 points. He also represented Team USA in two Olympic Winter Games.
