Jean-Yves Roy was a standout right winger for the University of Maine from 1989 to 1992. In his three seasons with the Black Bears, he was a prolific scorer, setting a school record with 108 goals and accumulating 203 points in 124 games. Roy’s exceptional talent was recognized with two First-Team AHCA All-America honors and two nominations as a Hobey Baker Award finalist in both 1991 and 1992, an accolade given to the top player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. He was also a key member of the Canadian team that won a silver medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
After his time at Maine, Roy embarked on a professional career that included stints in both North America and Europe. Although he went undrafted, he played in 61 NHL games for the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins. Most of his time in North America was spent in the American Hockey League (AHL). He later moved to Europe, where he played for professional teams in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland before retiring.
