Greg Brown was an accomplished defenseman for the Boston College Eagles from 1986 to 1990, where his impressive offensive production from the blue line led to him being a two-time top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, including the 1989 nomination. He finished his three collegiate seasons with 120 points (24 goals, 96 assists) in 119 games, which remains one of the highest totals for a defenseman in Boston College history. Brown was also named the Hockey East Player of the Year in both 1989 and 1990, earning back-to-back First Team All-American honors. Notably, he skipped his sophomore season (1987-88) to play for the U.S. National Team in the run-up to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
Drafted 26th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1986, Brown’s professional playing career spanned 12 years and included four seasons in the NHL, where he played 94 games for the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Winnipeg Jets. Following his time in North America, he spent eight seasons playing professionally in Europe, with stints in Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany, before retiring in 2003. Brown also continued his commitment to the U.S. National Team, representing the United States at two Winter Olympics (1988 and 1992) and three World Championships. He later transitioned into coaching, returning to Boston College where he currently serves as the head coach of the Eagles, following a successful tenure as an assistant for the New York Rangers.
