As a prolific forward for Merrimack College, Tom Lawler was named a top 10 finalist for the inaugural Hobey Baker Memorial Award in 1981. During the 1980-1981 season, Lawler was an integral part of the Merrimack squad and was recognized as the NCAA’s New England Most Valuable Player. His impressive collegiate career saw him become one of the program’s most decorated players, with his all-time goals and assists records remaining among the highest in Merrimack history. His nomination for the first-ever Hobey Baker Award cemented his legacy as a premier talent in college hockey.
Following his standout time in college, Lawler embarked on a professional career, primarily playing in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL). He spent two seasons in the league with the Mohawk Valley Stars and the Virginia Raiders, where he continued to be a productive offensive player. Lawler’s professional hockey career showcased his determination and skill, carrying the momentum from his successful college years into the professional ranks before his retirement.
