July 29, 2025
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award 45th Annual Award Banquet & Golf Tournament was a celebration of collegiate hockey excellence, honoring the sport’s top players and a revered figure. Held at The Royal Club in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, the event featured a golf tournament with a shotgun start at noon, followed by a cocktail hour, dinner, and the highly anticipated awards presentation. Guests had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, with proceeds directly supporting the Hobey Baker Memorial Foundation. This annual gathering serves not only to recognize outstanding achievements but also to raise funds that help promote the values of sportsmanship and character in youth hockey.
The highlight of the evening was the formal presentation of the 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award to Michigan State junior forward Isaac Howard. Howard, who was a force for the Spartans throughout the season, earned the prestigious honor as college hockey’s top player. He led the NCAA with an average of 1.41 points per game, scoring 26 goals and tallying 26 assists for a total of 52 points in 37 games. His impressive resume for the season also included being named the Big Ten Player of the Year and an AHCA/CCM West First Team All-American, cementing his place among the elite in the sport.
In addition to celebrating Isaac Howard, the banquet also paid tribute to the 2025 Legend of College Hockey, Dick Umile. Umile, a long-time and highly respected coach, was honored for his significant contributions to the game. His recognition underscores the Hobey Baker Award’s commitment to acknowledging not only the players who excel on the ice but also the individuals who have shaped the sport and its values. The combination of recognizing a rising star in Howard and a legendary figure in Umile made for a memorable and inspiring evening for everyone in attendance.
