Tyler Wise

Kettle Run | Cougars | BOYS
The Assistant Coaches of the Kettle Run High School Ice Hockey team are selecting Tyler Wise for this year’s Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
While we could talk about his level of play, commitment, and work ethic on the ice, he is more deserving of the award for his character off the ice. Tyler is one of the most coachable players we’ve seen and he takes every bit of feedback and immediately applies it on the ice without hesitation. Not only does he take the feedback but he also takes what he has learned and uses that to lead others in drills and during game play. He is a leader for the team when it comes not only to skills but also with his work ethic (leading by example), his drive to rally the troops days before and leading up to game time, and his sportsmanship as show by the sheer fact that he is always last off the ice only after shaking hands with players, referees, linesmen, and the opposing team’s coaching staff – even during COVID.
Outside the rink, you can find Tyler serving his community by volunteering at his local church. There he plays in the worship band, serves as a small group leader for Middle School boys connect groups, and also has led worship and discussion during service times. Tyler enjoys being a mentor for the kids and is passionate about helping them face everyday life situations in a Christian way. It is this commitment and community leadership that led him to want to pursue a career in education, either as an administrator or teacher. He hopes to continue to make an impact on kids both in the classroom and on the ice as he plans to play and coach as long as he can.
