Independence / Rock Ridge | Phoenix | BOYS
Tim Jennings is currently a senior on the Independence / Rock Ridge combined varsity high school hockey club playing in the Northern Virginia School Hockey League (NVSHL). Tim is the team’s goaltender and captain of the Rock Ridge side of the team. Tim has played on the varsity team all four years of high school. At the start of the 2019-2020 hockey season, Independence high school opened it’s doors and the hockey program merged with Rock Ridge HS where Tim played the previous three years. The Independence / Rock Ridge varsity hockey team is extremely young with only two seniors and nine freshman. Going into to the season we realized it would be a challenge to be competitive with such a young and inexperienced team. However, under the leadership of Tim, the team approached each and every game with vigor and tenacity. Tim has been a standout and unsung hero all season long. Despite facing an average of 50 shots per game and losing most games by a wide margin, Tim never wavered. He always kept his composure and continued to exhibit unmatched character and leadership for the younger players on the team. In addition to his on-ice presence and leadership, Tim also excels academically. He was inducted into the 2019-2020 NVSHL All Academic Honors team which recognizes student athletes who maintain a 3.6 GPA during the first two marking periods of the school year and during the hockey season. In addition, Tim is active in the community and his church. Tim is a quite leader, role model, and mentor with unparalleled character and deserving of the 2020 Hobey Baker Award. Tim plans to attend Christopher Newport University next year where he hopes to continue playing hockey at the collegiate level.
