Shane Purnell’s character, determination, perseverance and determination exemplify the heart soul of what it means to be Charles County Cougar. Shane joined the Cougars his freshman year filling a big hole left by the graduating seniors. During his sophomore year Shane sustained a shoulder injury requiring surgery. During the off season Shane worked hard to rehab to be ready to go for his junior year. Shane came back strong his junior year earning a team captain role proving to be a solid leader both on and off the ice. However, during his junior year he suffered a second shoulder injury to his other shoulder that also required surgery. When many would have thrown in the towel, Shane persevered working hard during the off season to rehab. But, Shane did much more than rehab, Shane worked hard in the community as a Boy Scout attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. As a team captain his senior year Shane lead his team to the Cougars first winning season in four years!
