Owen Crain
2021 | Rhode Island | BOYS
Barrington | Eagles | BOYS
As a freshman, Owen displayed leadership qualities beyond his years. Recognizing this, the coaching staff selected Owen to serve as one of three captains as a sophomore, again as a junior and finally as a senior this year. In this leadership role Owen was responsible for ensuring the daily off ice tasks were completed such as loading and unloading the bus, bus and locker rooms are clean and that players are aware of the schedule. On the ice, whether at practices or games, Owen led by example. He led the drills by example, always stepping it up a notch, he helped the younger players understand the commitment needed to excel on our team, and he even kept the older players in check when they stepped out of line. Few coaches have the pleasure of a returning take charge sort of player like Owen. I am fortunate to have coached him throughout his high school career.
Owen isn’t just a tremendous leader, his accolades are also impressive. He’s a Rhode Island State Champion with the Eagles Hockey Team, he completed his junior season as a Rhode Island Hockey Coaches Association Division 1 selection to 3rd team All Division, and as a senior was selected to the Rhode island Hockey Coaches Association Division 1 2nd team All Division.
Owen’s leadership and dedication are not just limited to the ice. Owen does this while maintaining an impressive 3.94 GPA in the classroom, which has earned him membership in the National Honor Society.
Owen’s involvement doesn’t stop in the classroom either. Owen has served as Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class President and is also a 4 year member of the Barrington Student Council. Owen has produced and anchored The Eagles News Network Morning Show and wrote and received a $7,000 grant for a Smartboard for the Morning Show. He’s also on the staff of the “Talonâ€_x009d_, the school’s newspaper.
As a member of the Future Business Leaders of America Owen has been recognized for his contributions. Additionally, he has served as an Officer in the Young Politicians Club, a BHS HS XQ Grant Ambassador, He’s also part of the School’s Finance Club, Hope Club, Student Advisory Committee and Freshmen Transition Academy. Owen was also selected for the 2020 American Legion Boys State.
Additionally, in Owen’s free time, you may also find him busy working with non-profit organizations such as RI PBS and Prepare RI or volunteering on political campaigns or working the polls.
I have no doubt Owen will do amazing things in this world, and I for one, look forward to his great successes!
