Nick was selected to our varsity team as a Freshman, and he is the only current 4 year varsity player on our roster. This is notable because it speaks directly to Nick’s commitment, work ethic, and maturity. It is difficult (and uncommon) to be a 4 year varsity player as the varsity team is historically very heavily weighted towards Junior and Senior aged players. As a senior this year, Nick was unanimously elected by his teammates to be our Captain. On the ice, Nick leads by example, he pushes himself at every practice, on every shift, in every game. Off the ice, Nick is the guy that steps up without being asked or directed, to make sure all team gear is present for games and practices and accounted for after. He simply does whatever is necessary to ensure his team is prepared at all times. Nick carries these same traits outside the rink by working as an assistant for confirmation classes through his church – he simply enjoys helping and supporting people. And while his leadership traits come naturally, he is humble enough to recognize he can always improve upon them – he has attended special leadership training events at school and been an active participant (volunteer) with the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) – through school also. Nick excels at a high level academically as well – consistently hovering around a 4.0 GPA. Nick is extremely coachable, he promotes teamwork though action, not talk, and is a young man of character and integrity. Nick’s leadership and on-ice and off-ice contributions, will be missed and not easily replaced when he graduates. Nick has been a committed, core member of our organization for 4 years and he epitomizes the definition of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award!
