Character. Excellence. A love for the game. Sportsmanship.
These are the values that shaped the legend of Hobey Baker. The Hobey Baker Award committee believes that adversity builds character, and character builds excellence. Character makes the game better.
The summary of this award could stand for a lot of our seniors, but no one more so than Senior Jack Nei. Jack has faced adversity a number of times throughout his career at CDH. He started as an undersized highly skilled 9th grader who played bantams, led the JV in scoring as a sophomore, but still had fall & spring coaches tell him he was too small.
After a good junior year on varsity he was set to make the next jump as one of our senior alternate captains and playing alongside his childhood friend Matthew Gleason. In the last scrimmage, he broke his wrist and had to sit out the first 4 games. Jack, the leader, suited up for every game even though he couldn’t play to cheer on his teammates and to jump on the ice to collect the first varsity goal pucks of our many underclassmen. Since his return he is averaging 2 points a game and we have lost only once with him in the line-up.
Jack leads by example, is extremely coachable, is selfless, and embodies what it means to be a student athlete. He was a tremendous leader for our young team and is a young man of faith and conviction. We are very proud to have #10 on our team.
