Our school was not allowed to play last season due to Covid concerns so Ryan was our only returning player coming into this season. While he was already an accomplished player who had played varsity for his freshman and sophomore years, he faced an unprecedented challenge as the captain of the team of trying to bring together a group of guys that had never played at the varsity level and mold them into a team. This was further complicated by our youthfulness in that many of our players are freshmen and sophomores. Ryan worked hard in the off season at both welcoming everyone and at the same time also challenging everyone to becoming prepared for the season. He has continued to be a tremendous leader both by example and by his inclusion of everyone to let them know they are all valuable members of the team. Despite our young roster, we have been a very competitive team all year and this is due mainly to Ryan’s leadership. In a very unprecedented situation Ryan has been incredible . He is such a quality person and a fantastic representative of Westford Academy. I am honored to nominate him for the Hobey Baker Character Award.
