Michael transferred to University School as a junior, and due to WIAA rules was not able to participate in games for our program. Michael battled the academic workload that came with coming to a new school with high academic standards, adjusted extremely well socially, all while not being able to play the game he loved so much and trying to make new friends at his new school. A difficult adjustment for many, Michael was at every game throughout the season, cheering on his new friends and classmates, taking pictures for the school website, and was a great leader even though he was not able to play. Fast forward to this season and Michael was elected a team captain, has played a large role within our team, is a fixture in the school’s social community, and continues to show great academic progress in his grades. Michael has gone from someone who was not originally accepted into USM’s school as a student to now being a captain of the hockey team and a tremendous role model for those who will come after him.
