This year is my first year coaching in Dickinson and my #1 goal was to change the culture of the girls hockey program. The team had not had much success in the past few seasons, but Mataya has been extremely positive and a major contributor for the cultural shift that is happening with the program. Even though Mataya knew the hockey team’s chance at success this year was not great, she wanted to be a part of a positive change for the program. She loves and supports her teammates which has led to more trust among the team both on and off the ice. She gives her best effort in everything she does and has a great attitude while doing it. She stays disciplined in all aspects of her life and strives to be the best version of herself.
