Lordanthony Grissom

University Liggett | Knights | BOYS
Lordanthony deserves to be nominated for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award for his importance to the University Liggett School varsity hockey team. He is a model player and leader. In Lordanthony’s four years as defenseman for the Knights, he has been asked to take on more responsibility from a performance and accountability perspective both on and off the ice. During his sophomore year, Lordanthony had the opportunity to play with a very talented group of upperclassmen and could have used this as a passive opportunity to learn how to handle a large amount of ice time and how to lead vocally and by example. Instead, he used his natural ability as a person and an athlete to work with these upperclassmen and he became a leading performer and strong presence in the locker room. Due to the experience of our upperclassmen and the significant contribution of an underclassman like Lordanthony, we won the Division 3 Michigan State Championship for the first time in 22 years.
This experience provided confidence and assurance in his leadership and on ice skills and has allowed him to become the exemplary person and player he is today. He has organically provided leadership for our younger and first year players, offering them friendship and the opportunity to learn what it means to be a University Liggett School hockey player. In addition, Lordanthony has adjusted his play in the past two seasons and completely committed to a more defensive game plan. Through his actions he has provided a strong example for the rest of our defensive unit to observe and model. As a player, Lordanthony respects the game, his teammates, and his opponents and no one wears the sweater with more pride.
