Leo Milan is Tartan’s winner of the Hobey Baker Award for the 2021-22 season.

Leo is constantly the first one on the ice for every practice and usually the last to leave. Leo is always looking the coach in the eye, listening and learning from that interaction. Leo is one of the most coachable players I had the opportunity to instruct.

The character that Leo exhibits is one of his best attributes and he demonstrates it daily. We mention to our team that the way you act when no one is around provides a true sense of who you are as a person. “Do the right thing, every time, not just when you know you are being watched.â€_x009d_ Leo does the right thing. As a Captain, he is honest with himself, teammates, coaches and referees when discussing situations. He may not always agree but demonstrates respect and fairness when voicing his opinions.

Our team works with TAYHA (our youth association), and Leo is constantly the first to sign up. He is very dependable, always showing up on time and joyfully communicates while out on the ice instructing the young skaters. When our program supports the community, Leo sets high expectations for his teammates. They share their knowledge and love of the game with the young hockey players.

The commitment Leo shows toward his schoolwork and being a student athlete is exhibited every day. Leo rarely misses out on doing his very best in the classroom or making any team function: practice, game, dryland training or any community service we attend.

Leo is constantly discussing with the other Captains and their teammates about how they can work out any different or difficult situations. Some are simple conversations while some are sit down serious discussions on how they all can come to a sensible resolution.
