As a first year head coach at Manasquan High School this season I had to rely heavily on my seniors. One that immediately popped out was Braden Ryan. He meets all the criteria of the Hobey Baker Character Award. Many times after games I was approached by officials or opposing coaches who would ask who is 22. Usually that is met with some negative feedback, but not in Braden’s case. Always followed up by, what a great young man, great sportsmanship, and plays the game the way it should be. Plays with class and respect. he was also the guy that after games was always seen taking photos with the opposing teams players. He is that type of kid. As far as coachability, he bought in to my new systems and philosophy immediately bringing others along with him. He, along with two of his peers where amazing captains for me this season. He is a wonderful young man, deserving of this honor and has a character that is second to none. I love how he embraced the work we did in the community with the Brick Stars Challenger program and collecting bears and books for the kids at JSMC during the holidays.
