Countdown to Hobey:

Tyler Poulin

2023 | Connecticut | BOYS

Terriers Hockey | Terriers | BOYS

Tyler’s love of hockey and of his team have been the focus of his life the past three years. Always striving to be better to support his team. Participating in one on one coaching, working hard in the weight room, and eating right. Off season, pre-season, in season, he is always trying to develop himself into the best hockey player and teammate he can be. This all culminated into his senior year, where his teammates selected him as captain. This launched Tyler into the best preseason hockey of his life, dominating as an offensive defensemen. He was ready for anything, until a routine shoulder check changed his trajectory for the season. A broken collarbone and three month recovery was not on the training plan. No longer was Tyler’s physical strength and stamina being tested for 45 minutes on the ice, but his mental/emotional resilience and character. Tyler struggled watching his team battle every game and continually coming up short. As difficult as it was to just watch, he continued to be a selfless teammate. Giving coaches advice on what he saw as areas to improve and being the team’s eye in the sky. Tyler truly embodies selfless leadership, putting his team and teammates before himself. His strength of character in a difficult situation role models for his teammates what it is to have perseverance and integrity. The impact Tyler has had on this team is immeasurable and we can’t think of a more deserving player of the prestigious Hobey Baker Award.
