Shane represents something that goes far beyond goals and assists. He is one of the most genuinely kind and unique players I have ever coached. Shane gets along with everyone, not just on our team, but across the school. He moves comfortably between all kinds of social groups, and he treats everyone the same way: with humor, respect, and authenticity.

Shane brings people together. He lightens the room without trying to be the center of attention. He makes others feel included. Quite simply, it’s impossible not to like him, and that kind of presence matters. It matters in a locker room, it matters in a school community, and it matters in life. That’s why Shane embodies what the Hobey Baker Character award is really about.
