Sean’s story is one of team-first sacrifice. Being the smallest school in our state it’s not uncommon for roster shortages to force players into unfamiliar roles—but giving up two full years as a defenseman to serve as a backup goalie shows serious commitment and character. Sean’s willingness to sacrifice for his teammates says a lot about who he is — both as a player and as a person. By making this shift he gave up the potential of ice time and clear impactful shifts to a backup who dressed every game but rarely played. Choosing that path means he prioritized the team’s stability over his own visibility and stats. Sean sacrifice didn’t change his attitude or turn into a negative — he stayed positive the entire time, embraced the role, and supported his teammates while waiting patiently for the opportunity to return to defense as a senior. That kind of maturity is rare in high school athletics and is why he best describes a player deserving of the Hobey Baker HS Character Award.
