Ryan Ward
2015 | Indiana | BOYS
Central Indiana | Knights | BOYS
Ryan Ward is an exemplary student athlete. I have watched Ryan over the past three seasons grow in both his athletic ability and his confidence. He is extremely focused and competitive. These traits along with his drive to achieve are the reasons he was elected captain by his teammates. He excels on the ice, in golf, as well as in the classroom. In all circles of high school hockey he is considered one of the best, if not the top player in Indiana. He is an excellent role model and inclusive to all of the younger players. He participates in other activities in school and is the player that comes to me about any needs the team or school has. He addresses the coaches and parents as a confident young man, looking them in the eye and speaking his mind.
Ryan drives the team to reach its potential. His leadership is vocal and motivational. He is always the first to inspire the team and offers excellent insight with his comments. He is always supportive and positive. His temperament is balanced no matter the game or score. Ryan is always joking and laughing with everyone on the ice, including the opponent players at face-offs. He enjoys the rink and knows everyone.
During the season, when we have had to make changes to systems, lines, power plays, or expectations, Ryan is the anchor we design around. We do this because he will execute any coaching change and others will see the result we are coaching to.
Ryan broke his collar bone 3 weeks ago. As a senior, I know this was devastating. All of these guys prepare for the inevitable, their final game. It is still unclear if he will be cleared in time for the state tournament. Ryan comes to practice with the same positive attitude and enjoyment of the rink. The possibility of his not playing hasn’t entered his mind.
Ryan has been a captain and leader in every aspect of our team. I offer you a glowing recommendation on his behalf, and thank him for his hard work and friendship over the years.
