Countdown to Hobey:

Ryan Ryba

2015 | Indiana | BOYS

Lake Central Blue | Indians | BOYS

I am writing this on behalf of Ryan Ryba, a member, on the Lake Central Blue hockey team. Ryan is one of the mature and most well rounded persons you will meet. He comes from a successful family with high morals and expectations.
Ryan is a two year varsity player, and has thrived on and off the ice. He has a 4.055 GPA in one of the top high schools in the state of Indiana. He plans on attending Purdue University in the fall. Ryan is self-motivated, and knows what it takes to be successful in the real world. If I could use one word to describe Ryan it would be “Leader”. On the Ice he leads by example, but also can coach a player through a difficult situation. Ryan is always the first one ready and the last to leave. I feel that with that type of attitude he will succeed in college and life. I have been coaching Ryan since he was a freshman and seeing him grow physically and mentally over the years has been fun. Even as a freshman Ryan gained the respect of his peers that were older than him because of the way he handled himself.
As a member of the Lake central hockey team every year Ryan participates with several charities throughout the year. At the beginning of winter he was responsible for establishing a coat/clothes drive which is donated to those in need. During the holiday season, he participated in adopt a family, which is where Ryan along with other players buy holiday presents for a needy family. They also deliver the presents to the family, so the children know where the presents are coming from. He has also spent time at the local food pantry and served those in need. Ryan does not do these things because he is forced, but out of the goodness of his heart. He also gets several other players/people to participate as well, which is a perfect example of Ryan being a Leader. As a member of the National Honor Society, Ryan has volunteered countless hours to his school and community. The activities listed here are only a tip of the scale to the amount of charity work or school work Ryan has completed during his high school career.
I feel that there is not a more deserving candidate than Ryan as over a four year high school career he has always done the right thing as an individual, been there for his teammates when they needed him, and represented Lake Central High school and Lake Central Hockey to the highest regard.
