I am the head coach of the Winston Churchill High School Varsity Ice Hockey Team, on which Ross has played throughout his four-year high school career.  

While Ross is our team captain and an excellent hockey player, that is not the only reason why I am writing this.  Ross has blossomed into a strong and resilient young man.  Ross does not back down from a challenge, whether it’s a tough on-ice opponent, or maintaining a superior academic grade point average despite the numerous distractions that high school often brings.    

Ross is strong on the ice and a level-headed, respectful young man off of it, always acting as a role model for peers and younger kids alike.  Ross has the self-discipline to be respectful of everyone – teammates, parents, coaches, referees and others alike, even in the most difficult circumstances.  

Ross’ teammates look to him as a leader, someone to always set the example.  Ross is unselfish, dedicated, and resilient.  He does not accept mediocrity in the athletic arena, in the same way that he pushes himself to achieve great things academically.  Ross is the first to take ownership and responsibility if the team lacks work ethic in practice or in a game. Ross’ dedication to his teammates and his work ethic are constantly on display by the fact that he is committed to attending all of our practices, which during the season take place on weekdays at 5:30am before beginning the school day.  

Academically, Ross sets the bar extremely high, leading our entire team last year with his grade point average.  Ross has all the traits which great students possess, that is, self-discipline, an excellent work ethic, an eagerness to learn, and respect for peers and those persons in positions of authority like coaches and teachers.  

It is easy for me to endorse Ross for this award.
