Countdown to Hobey:

R.J. Delaney

2016 | Massachusetts | BOYS

Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School | Aztecs | BOYS

A member of Assabet Valley’s cooperative ice hockey program via West Boylston High School, and a 4 year varsity participant for the Aztecs, R.J. consistently exemplified the meaning of “team player” throughout his high school career.  Always supportive of his teammates under all circumstances, he was always counted on by the coaching staff to perform at a high level despite his being asked to play several positions throughout his 4 seasons.  R.J.’s play was characterized as physical, but nearly always fair.  Despite his playing style, he was rarely called for infractions on the ice.  His play epitomized good sportsmanship!  Opposing players and coaches regularly took note of his calm, composed play during even the most trying or intense times.  His game improved every year and R.J. was a big reason why Assabet Valley advanced to the Central Mass Division 3A semi-final game this year.  Well liked and highly respected by players and coaches alike, R.J. is a most deserving recipient of the 2016 Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
