I am honored to nominate Owen Hoehn, senior captain of the Rochester Lourdes High School hockey team, for the Hobey Baker Character Award. Owen represents everything this award stands for—integrity, sportsmanship, passion for the game, and excellence both on and off the ice.

As team captain, Owen leads first through his own actions. He plays every shift with intensity and purpose, but always within the boundaries of the game. Teammates look to him because they trust him—his calm presence, his commitment to preparation, and his willingness to do the hard and often unseen work that drives team success. Whether it is staying after practice to help a younger player or being the first hand extended to an opponent getting up off the ice, he models the highest standard of respect for the sport.

Owen’s leadership extends beyond game nights. He is a strong student who takes pride in his academics and understands responsibility means more than just showing up; it means setting an example. His teachers speak highly of his character, his curiosity, and the consistency with which he holds himself accountable. He balances athletics, academics, and service with maturity uncommon for someone his age.

What truly sets Owen apart is the way he treats people. He is the kind of student-athlete who is known as much for his kindness as his compete level. From volunteering in the community to representing his school with humility and grace, Owen approaches every opportunity with gratitude and heart. His presence makes his team stronger, his school better, and his community prouder.

For these reasons and many more, I strongly recommend Owen Hoehn for the Hobey Baker Character Award. He embodies the values that make high school sports meaningful and is exactly the type of young man this honor is designed to recognize
