It is an honor to recommend Century High School senior Nick Cunningham for consideration for the 2016-2017 Hobey Baker Award. I’ve come to know Nick well over his senior year as his coach on the Century Panthers Hockey Team.
Throughout this year at Century, Nick exemplifies the ideals and qualities of a scholar athlete. He shows strong leadership and work ethic in the classroom and extracurricular activities as well as on the ice. Nick brings an infectious positive attitude and passion in all of his activities as well as life in general. He shows other students through his actions that hard work, positive attitude and commitment can lead to success in one’s endeavors.
Nick has worked with our younger student athletes to show how they can balance efforts in the classroom and athletics at the same time. Nick is always willing to share his own experiences, both positive and negative ones, showing that you can maintain a strong above average GPA while excelling in athletics. The best part of watching and knowing Nick throughout his RYHA and Century Panther career, has been watching him grow into the young man he is today. It’s been a journey that I’m honored to have played a small part. Nick has found time to give back to Rochester youth program over the years of playing High School hockey with volunteering time with many other community events.
Nick Cunningham has been a valuable, integral part of Century High School and is considered a leader in and out of the classroom as well as on the ice; when he graduates he will be greatly missed. Nick Cunningham would be a worthy recipient of a scholarship that recognizes his outstanding combination of scholarship and athletics. Again, it is my honor to serve as a reference for him.
Sincerely,
Josh Klingfus
Head Coach
