NATHAN CORDEIRO
2016 | Rhode Island | BOYS
MT. HOPE HIGH SCHOOL | HUSKIES | BOYS
Nathan was selected captain of the team this season. He has matured and has grown into a leader. For most offensively talented players, senior year would be all about stats and being in the spotlight. We had a small team this season and suffered many injuries. Nathan (and his teammates) has had to play multiple positions and many minutes per game. This team NEVER quit and this was due to Nathan’s ability to “gather the troops” and make them dig deep into their hockey souls.
Our team this year may be the only team not to make the playoffs. It would have been easy for a senior to lose hope and interest. Not Nate, he has rallied his alternate captains and his team has become a cohesive unit. I could have easily nominated Nate for his hockey skills, but it is his leadership, his love of team, respect for the game, maturity, and love for his school that made this an easy decision for this nomination.
Hockey is only a part of what we do, being leaders is what we want to our student athletes to excel in…That is what Nathan has accomplished this season.
This is why I nominate him for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
