Mitchell Scott is a selfless individual and the ultimate teammate.

To characterize the type of person Mitchell is, I have two brief stories. Mitchell is a senior by the way.

Story #1: I gave Mitchell a call prior to the start of our 4-game round robin playoff run this year. I told Mitchell that he would be the starting goaltender for the first two games of round robin play. I went onto explain to Mitchell how he earned this right and that he should enjoy the moment. Mitchell’s simple response was, it means a lot. I couldn’t think of a better/more genuine response out of kid in that moment. The type of response that gave me butterflies in my stomach.

Story #2: We played our final home game of the year, which happened to be a playoff game that we lost. We are fortunate enough to have our own state of the art locker room at our home ice rink. As Coach, I always stick around the locker room until all players have left. On this night, Mitchell purposefully wanted to be the last to leave. In fact, he asked me for the key to our locker room and with his head down he said, Coach, I can lock up the room tonight. At that point, I knew he was crying and I knew he wanted to take a few minutes to himself to be alone in the room where so many memories took place. As soon as Mitchell asked for the key and I saw him crying, I got extremely emotional as well. I took 10 seconds to shed a tear with Mitchell, gave him a hug and handed over the key to him to lock up. This was a clear sign that the high school journey was special for Mitchell and that he was 110% bought-in and invested in the TEAM. As a Coach, this is the type of closure I strive for every player to experience that comes through my program.
