.Michael has a wonderful work ethic both on and off the ice and an unwavering dedication he has exhibited over the course of his exemplary career at Bishop Watterson. In the time I have known Michael, he has demonstrated an ability to challenge himself in all areas and focus on aspects of his game that need improvement. He takes pride in leading by example and ensuring all of his teammates achieve success as well. Always focused and positive, Michael is able to manage the different personalities and ability levels of the team and create a common bond towards success. Michael is an extremely well-rounded student-athlete.
As an athlete, Michael has excelled as a prolific goal scorer in all four seasons for the Bishop Watterson hockey program. As a formidable offensive threat, Michael has played on the top line every year and led the team in scoring the past three seasons. This year, after losing the majority of our secondary scoring to graduation, we have leaned on Michael even more to fill the net and he has not disappointed. He is one of, if not the, top scorers in the country with 63 goals. He has also tallied 21 assists for a total of 84 points. Additionally, we have expanded his leadership role and called on him to play extended minutes in all situations, such as leading the penalty kill unit and even playing spot minutes at defense. True to form, Michael has excelled in this capacity and done so with grace and humility. His flexibility and willingness to put “we above I” for the team to succeed is a testament to his selfless nature. A true leader in every sense of the word, Michael was named Captain as both a junior and senior.
Beyond his athletic success, Michael works tirelessly in the classroom. He is a four-year member of 1st Team All-Academia for the league due to his academic drive and commitment to excellence. With a heavy workload of classes, Michael has managed his time very well to succeed in both sports and school. He is also the point person for team communications with regards to game and practice changes, weather updates, and urgent messages during an ever-changing schedule. Our program has been very fortunate to have Michael as an invaluable extension of the coaching staff.
