Michael epitomizes hockey determination and clean, fair  play. The idea of ones character guiding both playing style and non-sports interactions is demonstrated just by Michael being who he is.
He is always trying to win every battle and do the little things that count, making the play for the team and not just for himself, playing the game through any adversity without ever losing his composure.  He applies those same characteristics to everything he does outside of sports as well, e.g. especially notable in his academic activities and personal interactions.

He stands out on the team in several ways, but ‘leading by doing the right thing’ both on and off the ice, is a primary factor that everyone notices about Michael.
