Matthieu Carter will graduate in May of 2023 from Regis Jesuit High School. He isn’t our most gifted player on the varsity hockey team. He doesn’t lead the team in goals or points. However, prior to his entrance to Regis Jesuit High School as a freshman, Matthieu went through a difficult personal experience. I have now had the pleasure of coaching Matthieu for four years (three years on the JV team and this his senior year on the varsity team). I’ve witnessed his growth as a hockey player and as a young man and I’m proud to have seen this transformation. Matthieu leads all our varsity defensemen in plus / minus at +23, which means at even strength he has been out for 23 more goals scored than given up. He takes extreme pride in helping the team win, no matter what that takes. He was captain of the state championship winning JV team as a junior last year and is part of the varsity team’s leadership group this season. He has nurtured his relationships with his teammates and is a vocal leader in the locker room and on the ice. Matthieu embodies coachability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community building and outstanding sportsmanship.
