Matt is an excellent athlete and competes at a very high level. He is one of the teams leaders but what sets Matt apart is his character. Matt faced adversity this year with some medical issues that have sidelined him and will continue to affect him in the future. Instead of taking the negative, he has remained upbeat and has shown true strength of his character. When running down the list of awards criteria, Matt does not just meet them, he actually surpasses them.
