Mathew Behar
2018 | New York | BOYS
Byram Hills High School | Bobcats | BOYS
Mathew has been nothing short of a perfect leader both on and off the ice. His work ethic is second to none. While it may be easy to have a sense of cockiness and complacency in his position, he has done the exact opposite. Mathew sacrificed his club hockey career to focus on his high school team full time in the winter. Mathew has also maintained stellar grades in the classroom while keeping a perfect attendance record at both practices and games. On the bus to every practice, Mathew can be seen studying, working, or interacting with underclassmen to help them transition to the world of varsity hockey. No matter what, he is always doing something to help model the proper behaviors of a Byram Hills Ice Hockey player. As a coach, I feel that I am indebted to him for leading this team. As a ninth grader, Mathew came into a team ranked 117 out of 124 teams in New York State. Heading into his senior season, we are ranked number 12 out of 124. A large part of the turnaround is due to the tireless efforts of Mathew.
