I have had the pleasure of knowing and coaching Mariah Aukes for the past four years as a student-athlete. Mariah is a very gifted person who has done an outstanding job in the classroom and on the ice. She has always been committed to being the best and raising the bar high for herself and others.

Mariah has strong values that guide her sensational decision-making. She views the world in a very responsible manner. As a result, she is respected in the school and in the athletic community. Mariah is always willing to help others, able to motivate people to reach their potential and is always willing to put in the extra work and effort.

Mariah is very reliable and always can be counted on. Mariah truly excels in the classroom earning one of the highest GPA’s on our team the last two consecutive years. As a coach and teacher, if I need to have something organized and want an excellent job done, I ask Mariah. Her accomplishments in the classroom are truly impressive considering she is a 3-sport athlete.

Mariah has been a tremendous teammate as well. When our team met and voted for captains, Mariah received a vote from nearly every one of her teammates. This shows the level of respect that she has earned from her teammates as well as her coaches. Mariah has set an excellent example for our younger players of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication both on the ice and in the classroom. Mariah is always voted and looked at as the “Hardest Workerâ€_x009d_ by her hockey peers as well.

Mariah has outstanding qualities that are very evident on a daily basis. I believe she will succeed at whatever she sets her mind to. Therefore, I think Mariah Aukes is an excellent candidate for the Hobey Baker Character Award.
