Makayla Sterrett
2016 | Minnesota | GIRLS
Luverne High School | Cardinals | GIRLS
Makayla Sterrett’s character and leadership is the foundation of our team. I can’t begin to explain how she leads her life and demonstrates the characteristics of The Hobey Baker Award on a daily basis. Her integrity, academic achievement, and sportsmanship are outstanding. Not only is she an excellent hockey player, but an excellent person as well. Her qualities include: team before me, always hungry, battle hard no matter the price, fight through pain and adversity, never complain, never, ever quit, and win or lose you shake your opponents hand celebrating a contest well fought. No different then Hobey Baker himself. Makayla’s leadership skills are very strong and she is recognized and looked up to by her peers because of her strong leadership. When she talks the team listens, and she’s always saying the right things bringing the team together, raising the moral and getting the best from them. Makayla is one of, if not the best female hockey player to come through Luverne. She broke the career points record and is approaching 200 goals for her career. For these reasons, I nominate Makayla Sterrett with no reserve.
