Luke Harris
2026 | Ohio |
Troy High School | Trojans |
I have had the privilege of being Luke’s hockey coach for the past four years and being in this position, I have seen firsthand Luke demonstrate the qualities of an excellent leader. His dedication and hard work have shown through his passion of hockey, and his support of the community through his Eagle Scout project.
I remember when he was a freshman over 6 foot, he was tall and lanky, since then he has taken a passion into working out and striving to be in the best shape he can be. Luke is one of the hardest working players on the team, he comes to every practice and gives it his all; in games he gives 110% every shift and this year in particular that hard work and success has led to him having a larger impact on the team, whether it be goals or inspiring his teammates. Through these continued actions he has unanimously earned the respect of his teammates and also caught the coach’s attention which is why we made him a Captain his senior year.
He says the right things to keep the team focused on the task ahead, stays positive through the difficult times, listens and reacts well to coaching, and most importantly he is a servant leader showcasing this by doing something as simple as helping pick up the pucks at the end of practice. This last example really sticks out the most to me, not only does he wear a letter on his jersey, but he has the moral compass to understand that does not make him any better than his teammates and that he is willing to do the work he expects from others; that embodies a true leader, who leads by example rather than by commanding.
On top of Luke’s exceptional characteristics as a leader, Luke also has very impressive stats throughout his Troy Trojans Hockey career. He currently has 59 goals and 70 assists for 129 points through his career, with at least 11 games to go on the season. He is currently 11th all-time in goals, 7th all-time in assists and 8th all time in points during Troy’s 30-year history as a varsity hockey program. Lastly, he is 1 of 22 players to ever reach the 100-point club for the Troy Trojans hockey program.
These stats along with his excellent leadership qualities and overall, just love and passion for the game is the reason I have nominated Luke Harris for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award.
