Landon Young is a 17 year old senior student who presently attends the Central Academy of Technology and Arts and plays for the Union County East Eagles High School ice hockey team. In 2017, after completing his first Midget season for the Charlotte Checkers he was diagnosed with childhood cancer. He underwent weeks of painful tests and eventually had life-saving surgery at Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was forced to miss the second half of the High School hockey season in his Sophomore year of high school.

Landon recovered enough to play a full season of Charlotte Rush AA travel hockey and was among the team’s leading scorers at season’s end. During Landon’s Junior season with Union County East he was among the leading scorers in the league and his line dominated play enough to help the team finish with the best record in the entire league. They lost the championship game and Landon was the first pick in the All-Star game draft and was one of only two Junior forwards to participate in the game.

Landon has just finished his U18 Elite Charlotte Rush season and was among the top scorers on the team and he hit with reckless abandon throughout the season. Landon also served as one of the team’s Assistant Captains while maintaining a 3.4 GPA and gaining acceptance to 7 colleges in the State of North Carolina. Landon looks forward to attending school to continue his education in Cyber Security (his Academy in High School) while immersing himself in the local community.

Landon has been through so much and he continues to improve and work his way to success. He is a great teammate and an even better friend. He looks forward to a successful Senior season of hockey and is ready for any challenge that may come his way. He is someone who exemplifies what the Hobey Baker Character Award stands for and is worthy for consideration this season.
