MID-MICHIGAN ALLIANCE | VALKYRIE | GIRLS

Kennedy Christensen’s journey to becoming captain of the Mid-Michigan Alliance girls’ high school hockey team was nothing short of remarkable. Her story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the indomitable spirit that defines true leaders.
Kennedy’s love for hockey began at an early age. Growing up in the heart of Michigan, where winter embraced the land in a frosty hug, she spent countless hours on frozen ponds, perfecting her skating skills. However, when she was just twelve years old, a family tragedy struck, forcing her to leave the sport that had once brought her so much joy.
For years, Kennedy distanced herself from hockey, focusing on academics and finding solace in other pursuits. The rink’s echoes faded from her memory as she faced the adversities life threw at her. But destiny had a different plan for Kennedy. A chance encounter during her sophomore year of high school reignited the flame that had long been extinguished.
It was sophomore year of high school when Kennedy found herself in the local ice rink. Mid-Michigan Alliance coaching staff had found her number from her old team and called to see if see was still interested in playing. With a mix of trepidation and excitement, she laced up her skates, unsure of what to expect after years away from the game. As the cold air embraced her, Kennedy felt a surge of nostalgia and determination.
Her return to the ice wasn’t without challenges. The once-familiar movements felt foreign, and doubts clouded her mind. Yet, Kennedy persevered. She ended up joing the Mid-Michigan Alliance, determined to prove to herself and others that she could overcome the obstacles life had thrown her way.
Kennedy’s work ethic and dedication caught the attention of her teammates and coaches. She became a source of inspiration, not just for her skill on the ice, but for the resilience she demonstrated in the face of adversity. As the season progressed, Kennedy’s passion for the game and her leadership qualities shone brightly.
In her junior year, Kennedy’s efforts culminated in a well-deserved recognition. She was awarded the All-State Award from the Michigan Girls High School Hockey League, a testament to her skill, dedication, and the journey she had undertaken to reclaim her place in the hockey community.
This year, when the time came to choose a captain for the Mid-Michigan Alliance, there was no question who would lead the team. Kennedy’s teammates rallied behind her, acknowledging not only her prowess on the ice but also the strength of character she had displayed throughout her comeback.
The Hobey Baker High School Character Award Nomination was the perfect way to recognize Kennedy’s remarkable journey. Her story was not just about hockey; it was about overcoming adversity, rediscovering passion, and inspiring those around her. As captain of the Mid-Michigan Alliance, Kennedy Christensen had not only earned her place on the team but had become a symbol of resilience and leadership for her peers, embodying the spirit of Hobey Baker himself.
