Kaitlyn Narum
2018 | Colorado | COED
Arapahoe Varsity II | Warriors | COED
I am writing this letter on behalf of “Kaitlyn Narumâ€_x009d_. For the last 2 seasons she has proven herself to be an outstanding team player, humble, and very charitable, not only within her hockey and school community but with helping US Veterans and taking an active interest in the Denver area Sled Hockey Association.
Having spent years on the sidelines from the time she was 3 years old, watching her older brothers play and practice at various rings and took it upon herself at the young age of 6 or 7, It wasn’t unusual to find her sitting next to a spectator who was new to watching hockey, enthusiastically explain what icing, offsides and penalties were during games.
During the summer in between her sophomore and Junior years of High School, she seized the opportunity of being fortunate enough to work at a local ice rink and after having pulling together hand me down gear so she could safely take to the ice, she spent the whole summer working on her skills whenever possible. She regularly attended scheduled stick and puck sessions, public skating hours to work on her basic skating skills and took advantage of last minute unused ice whenever possible.
On the ice and around the locker room, she does her best to lighten the mood and encourage her teammates to not only put their foot forward but not be poor sports after coming out on the bottom of a game.
Since her recent start to playing in 2016, she has shown steady improvement not only in the development of her personal skills but also demonstrates great leadership skills. She also sets a good example of what being a high school athlete constitutes. From having suburb attendance for scrimmages, games, practices and team events as well as holding a 3.6 GPA and she pulls her weight helping with team fundrasieres. Not only does Kaitlyn understand the game itself, she helps with running the clock and scorekeeping if a team after her game is in need of help.
In 2017 Kaitlyn designed and made sticker decals to distribute to team mate to put on their helmets that exhibit school spirit, respect, and the remembrance of a warrior that passed away during a school tragedy in 2013. A popular motto at Arapahoe HS is “Warriors take care of each otherâ€_x009d_. Kailtyn wants the future incoming players to only to take care of one another but have a small part of Claire Davis with them during games, as Claire was one of the strongest Warriors to ever walk the halls of Arapahoe HS. Even the other two Littleton sister high schools that feed into the Arapahoe hockey team, were are represented on the decal.
Kaitlyn has been involved with sled hockey for the past few years she enjoys getting to know some of the players off the ice and loves the challenges she faces when scrimmaging them. The opportunity builds a lot of character and has allowed us to see the game of hockey from a different vantage point.
For the Danny Dietz memorial game and day of event this past summer in 2017 she worked tirelessly to secure an electric wheel chair so that the foundation could place the chair with a local veteran in need. Before she began playing, she was involved in the sport,
Kaitlyn began began being a student manager for the Heritage high school team when she was just in 7th grade, up until she began to play herself in the . She has always been one to help and year after year she 11th grade. She was an extremely valuable and dependable member of the team. She gladly donated her time in an effort to provide her upperclassman teammates and their parents a memorable Kailtyn is definitely a pleasure to have on the team.
She displays outstanding leader and sportsmanship at team events and during the games, As well as having a true dedication to upholding school spirit, and a heartfelt love of helping not only members of our local hockey community but also the community in which she lives. Its been a pleasure coaching her last season and I am definitely looking forward to working with her during the final season of her High School Hockey Career.
Regards,
Chris Tritz
