Countdown to Hobey:

Justin  Mercer

2016 | Virginia | BOYS

Chantilly High School | Chargers | BOYS

Justin has capped off an extremely impressive career as the Chantilly hockey club’s goaltender and we will miss him greatly after this season.  As a four year starter, he has been relied upon on countless occasions to preserve the team’s lead (or even just keep the team in the game) with acrobatic saves which have baffled opponents.  Especially during his senior year, Justin was relied upon heavily and was oftentimes the main reason we won games we probably shouldn’t have even been competitive in.  His wickedly fast glove hand, superior angling and overall quickness in the crease is something which will be next to impossible to replace.

Justin was most deservedly recognized as a league All-Star during his junior year, but was unfortunately snubbed this past season.  His reaction to this was to shrug his shoulders and just move on to the next challenge.  This was always the type of attitude Justin exhibited on and off the ice and the same reason he was a good teammate for the other players to look up to.  We’re happy to honor Justin as this year’s Hobey Baker award recipient and wish him the best of luck as he moves on from Chantilly High School!
