Countdown to Hobey:

Jamie Erikson

2023 | Massachusetts | BOYS

St. John Paul II School | Lions | BOYS

St. John Paul II hockey captain Jaime Erikson epitomizes the values and characteristics established by Hobey Baker, both on and off the ice.

He was elected as team captain his senior year, by his teammates. He has never compromised that trust. On the ice, he is a relentless defenseman who consistently plays to the end of the echo of the whistle.

Off the ice his commitment to the community, near and far, is beyond reproach. He is the President of the JP II National Honor Society, and Vice President of all school student council. He spearheads Operation Street Reach, Reach Out, Toys for Tots, and organized a clothing drive for Independence House—a local women and family shelter.

But his true character and leadership shined when tragedy struck our school this year, with the death of a classmate. Two of our three captains were very close to the affected family, and they were understandably distraught. Jaime did the work of all three captains, ensuring the team moved forward. His demeanor throughout was humble and understated. As the shock of the event wore off, Jamie seamlessly restored responsibility to his fellow captains, which allowed our team to continue our season, albeit with a heavy heart.

This same team, without a strong student-leader, may have stumbled or even failed. Jaime was the singular reason that did not happen. He is most worthy of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
